Welcome. Thank you for your interest in my art. I paint and teach art, and Soft pastel has been my medium of choice for almost thirty years. Growing up in Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay, still influences my subject matter choices of marshes, boats, and coastal shores. I am deeply grateful to all the teachers who have propelled my art journey forward. First, my Mom, Chris Miller, was an accomplished oil painter, who taught me to draw, paint and most importantly appreciate nature at an early age. Gerard Valerio, in beloved Epping Forest, introduced me to the works of fine artists, the watercolor medium, and the art of seeing. There have been many master artists who shared their creative wisdom with me and I thank them.
My formal education is in Psychology and Biology, an odd combination for someone who practices art. I am a firm believer that no learning is lost; the knowledge manifests itself differently to inform my work.
I began teaching art at the Vero Beach Museum of Art in 2007 and currently manage the Art for Health’s Sake Program at the Museum, which emphasizes the positive benefits of the creative process using all expressive modalities. I continue teaching a variety of art classes at my studio and gallery.
